Save The Reef
Founded by philanthropist Tim Sykes, artist/photographer Mat Abad and film director Amir Zakeri, SaveTheReef is a project of Karmagawa, dedicated to saving the world’s oceans and marine life through a number of initiatives, including the fast-growing @savethereef account on Instagram and the launch of their upcoming film documentary.
Save the Reef is committed to protecting ocean ecosystems by educating the public about threats to coral reefs, restoring damaged reef habitats, and advocating for reef-safe practices through campaigns and partnerships. Over time it has initiated coral nurseries on the Great Barrier Reef and replanted resilient corals into degraded reef zones. It also donates funds to aligned conservation organizations and supports on-the-ground restoration efforts. The organization produces educational content, campaigns, and resources to raise awareness about plastic pollution, harmful chemicals in sunscreen, pesticides, and fossil fuel impacts. Through collaborations with creators, charities, and community groups, Save the Reef aims to mobilize global action for marine conservation.
